Kids In Need: Backpack packing event

This event opportunity is in correlation to our "Backpack & School Supplies Drive," benefiting the Kids In Need Foundation - Twin Cities (KINF.)

KINF is designed to empower under-resourced teachers and students by providing the supplies they need to succeed. https://www.kinf.org/

In the past we've pre-packed backpacks full of supplies, organized the teacher store, written cards of inspiration to kids receiving the backpacks, etc.

Please RSVP by August 26th so the KINF can prepare accordingly.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
As we continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19, we have been welcoming groups with 5-16 volunteers. Per CDC guidelines, our current organizational policy is that masks are not required indoors. However, anyone who has recently been exposed to COVID-19 must wear a mask while in our facility. If you have a positive test or have any symptoms, please stay at home. If you do test positive, do not return to your volunteer responsibilities until you procure a negative test. If any individual or group would prefer to wear a mask during their volunteer session, they are welcome to do so. If you would prefer that our staff who will be leading your group wear a mask, please let us know ahead of time and we will be happy to oblige!

Closed-toed and closed-heeled shoes are required for safety purposes. (No exceptions). We will be building in a designated volunteer space attached to our warehouse. Comfortable and durable clothing is recommended. The space can be a bit chilly in the winter months and warmer in the summer, so layers can be helpful.

While not a requirement, it can be helpful to have a few people on your team that are able and willing to lift 30+ pounds, including some possible bending. Please also let me know if anyone on your team needs any specific accommodations prior to arrival.

We do have bottled water on-site but ask that each volunteer bring their own beverage if possible to cut down on our carbon footprint.

All volunteers are required to sign a waiver, which I have attached. If under the age of 18, a parent/guardian signature is required. (Children ages 8 and above are allowed to volunteer with at least one adult for every five minors under the age of 15.) We will have paper copies on site if needed.

If you have any questions, reach out to me directly. We hope to see many of you at the event!!

Physical requirements may include: Sitting, standing, repetitive motion, light lifting, working with your hands.

MEMBER REGISTRATION

**Please RSVP no later than August 26th**

We need to give a firm volunteer count a week prior to our event.

FMSC COVID-19 Update:

Our sites are open and we're working diligently to make our sites as safe as possible. Before registering for a shift, please review these new safety measures:

  • If you are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 please stay home.

  • All volunteers will be required to wear masks for the duration of their session (masks can be cloth, surgical, N95, etc.) We encourage volunteers to bring their own masks.

  • All volunteers will have their temperature checked and go through a verbal symptom screening upon arrival. Temperatures must be under 100.4°F in order to pack.

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and shop FMSC MarketPlace™.  If there is a line at the door, please wait until those in line have entered the building to help respect social distancing requirements.

  • Volunteer group size is limited to five people. Please note that you will not be socially distanced from anyone you choose to sign up with. You will be socially distanced from any other groups in the packing room. If you sign up as an individual, you will likely be paired with another volunteer but will still be six feet from each other (at opposite ends of our packing stations).

  • If your group is larger than five, simply register for multiple groups of five. Your groups of five will still need to maintain social distance from your other groups of five, however we will do our best to keep your packing stations as close to each other as possible.

  • If you or anyone in your group develops symptoms while packing, you and your entire group will be asked to leave immediately.

  • The packing setup has been changed to accommodate groups ranging in size from one to five.

  • The minimum volunteer age has been temporarily increased to eight.

  • If you are in a high risk category, please stay home.

  • A reservation is required to pack. No walk-ins can be accepted.

ACBC Food Shelf: Homebound Meal Packing

  • Anoka County Brotherhood Council Food Shelf (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

ACBC Food Shelf is needing help with packing boxes of items homebound clients chose through their “Outreach Deliver Program” to get ready for delivery. It is approximately 20 boxes. They need at least 5 volunteers, and a maximum of 10. Masks required.

ACBC is asking us for monthly help (generally the 2nd Thursday of each month) from our group. You do not need to commit to go monthly, but you can sign up for every month you want to help. If 4:30pm is too difficult to make work, you can get there as late as 5pm. Please be sure to sign up for each month you plan to attend.

About the Outreach Delivery program
The Outreach Delivery program serves homebound individuals in the community who are unable to go into the community to access groceries.  Participants of the Outreach Delivery program are able to shop via a menu each month and volunteers pack up their grocery order and deliver it to their home.  Currently, ACBC Food Shelf serves 103 individuals per month by delivering them fresh and nutritious foods to their door.

Physical requirements may include: standing, lifting, walking, and bending
